TESL Ontario Competency-and-Credit Based Recognition of Prior Learning Project Announcement

TESL Ontario is pleased to announce that through a contract with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration, TESL Ontario will develop a new process for the recognition of prior learning (RPL) for Internationally Trained Instructors of adult English as a Second Language to replace its existing PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment Recognition). The new RPL system will include a competency-based process as well as the current credit-based system.
Over three years, the project team will research primary sources of credit for ITIs; develop assessment rubrics, determine competencies critical to the ESL/EFL instructor, design challenge tools and collaborate with interested TESL Ontario programs.
The new process will facilitate access and clarify requirements for internationally trained individuals enabling a return to their profession as quickly as possible and continue to support excellence in classroom practice and success in academic endeavours.
