Language Services Coordinator

Position Summary::
Plans, organizes, administers and measures effectiveness of the LINC Language Services program, and provides support, and guidance to the program staff including LINC program instructors. Monitors the program to ensure program continuity and contractual objectives are met. The incumbent works together with the program team to ensure that the program runs effectively so that the participants can successfully complete the course and ultimately find employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Plans, organizes, administers and oversees daily activities of support staff,
language instructors, and/or volunteers engaged in the implementation and
administration of program objectives.
• Handles the administrative tasks of programs/services including filing, course
schedule, book ordering and distribution, program correspondence, evaluation,
graduation, and follow-up.
• Serves as a principal liaison between participants, management/staff, other
departments, funder, case workers, and/or external constituencies on day-to-day
programmatic, operational, and administrative issues.
• Administers the overall process of client registration, selection and enrolment
for all clients. Monitors equipment and materials for each class to ensure their
availability.
• Collects and analyzes data, prepares scheduled and special reports, maintains
clients’ records both in the Organization and funder’s databases.
• Plans and organizes the development of course promotional materials and outreach
strategy. Promotes and market the program by providing off - site outreach. Work
with the partner organizations to ensure awareness of our programs/services.
• Administers the evaluations of instructors and participants. Provides feedback
regarding their performance throughout the course.
• Performs other duties as required. Assists with proposal writing as appropriate to
the objectives and funding nature of the program.
• Maintains knowledge, observes and practices appropriate procedures in regards to
Fire, Safety, Quality and environmental standards. Participates in team meetings and
decision-making. Maintains a safe, orderly and tidy work area.

Qualifications
• Post-secondary education or training, plus work experience related to training, settlement services, intake and assessment and development and delivery of group sessions for newcomers
• Three years of related experience.
• Ability to work with and understanding of people from a multitude of ethnic, linguistic and cultural backgrounds
• Demonstrated sensitivity and understanding of the needs and issues of newcomers and the different needs of refugees, newcomer women, seniors, youth, children and francophones
• Ability to work in a team structure and within an anti-racism framework.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Proficiency in a second language an asset.
• Flexibility to conduct activities at various community sites and to work daytime, evenings and weekends as required for host program delivery.
• Experience in applying leading edge business intelligence, analysis tools, proficiency in MS Words, Excel, PowerPoint and Project Management methodologies
• Team player that contributes to an open, innovative, responsive and professional team environment.

Position Description: The Language Assessor is responsible for administering CLBA, CLBLA, CBLPT and ELTPT tools and referring newcomers to appropriate LINC classes or other training
providers.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Assesses and re-assesses clients for language eligibility and training needs as
outlined in the LINC program definition
• Administers the CLBA, CLBLA, CLBPT and ELTPT tools according to the principles as
outlined by established standards and training
• Refers clients based on assessment to the most appropriate language service
provider
• Administers assessments at Service Provider locations and within Community
Development Council Durham on a pre-arranged established schedule and on an as
needed basis as required
• Meets requisite target numbers of clients as stipulated by the CIC contract
• Maintains accurate and up to date records, files and documentation using the
appropriate databases and systems.
• Prepares program reports on a monthly and annual basis and as requested, in a
timely and accurate manner
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget
• Participates in the development of an outreach plan including presentations,
distribution of promotional materials, advertising, and other activities to raise
the level of awareness of the program to other referral programs and agencies and
potential clients
• Develops pamphlets, media releases, presentations and media events to publicize
the LINC program
• Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications
• Post Secondary Education in SLA or related field
• TESL Ontario Certificate
• 300 Minimum Hours teaching adult ESL
• Ability to achieve certification as a LINC assessor through the appropriate
regulatory body
• Solid Knowledge of Durham Community and service organizations

  • Responsible for creating a specialized curriculum based on workplace specific materials provided by company representatives

  • Provide ongoing monitoring of student progress according to Canadian Language Benchmarks, and submit monthly reports to Project Assistant
  • Perform administrative tasks, including class attendance, evaluations, collection of class demographics, timesheet and mileage reports and submit to Project Assistant
  • Attend instructor meetings as required

Qualifications

  • TESL Ontario certification is mandatory
  • Post-secondary education/training in related field

Responsibilities:
The program combines advanced level language training at CLB 5 to 7 with sector specific terminology training for internationally-educated professionals in health care professions or individuals who are changing careers into health care.

Duties:

  • Implement and deliver curriculum at CLB 5 to7 to address language barriers and needs in the four area skills of foreign professionals in the health care sector
  • Design weekly lesson plans based on Theme, Topic, Timeframe (TTT) Plan, curriculum and trainees’ language level
  • Conduct mid and final assessments of learners
  • Provide feedback to program coordinator
  • Maintain attendance, student records and other documentation as required
  • Ability to work co-operatively as a member of a team
  • Familiarity with e-resources, internet and email

Required qualifications/experience:

  • University Degree (preferable in health care)
