ESL Instructor - for day and evening classes

The London District Catholic School Board’s adult education program, the Centre for Lifelong Learning invites TESL qualified applicants to apply for a position in the adult non-credit ESL program funded by the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship, and Immigration. The classes are from 9:00 am to 11:30 am or 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday. The successful should be ready to start as soon as possible. This position could include any levels from ESL Literacy, 1 to CLB 7 and could be multi-level.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • the preparation and delivery of level-appropriate and task-based lessons aligned with Canadian Language Benchmarks to improve the adult learners ability to communicate effectively in English, using the portfolio based language assessment process for all learners
  • Monitoring and discussing students’ progress with them individually and as a group
  • Development of course outlines, module plans and keeping mark records
  • Participating in the development and evaluation of curriculum and instructional materials which include attending program meetings
  • Communicating with the ESL program manager and lead teacher
  • Maintaining relevant industry skills and knowledge by participating in continuous professional development to support personal and professional growth – which is either provided by the Board or on a personal level


  • Excellent teamwork skills to collaborate in the evaluation and placement of adult students
  • Competent skills in the use of technology to aid instruction which could include D2L
  • Able to effectively use email, calendaring, contact, as well as Microsoft Office software

University or College Diploma (preferred)
TESL Ontario Accreditation (OCELT)
Completion of PBLA training (preferred)
Experience teaching adults - either via employment of volunteer
Experience using technology to the 4 language skills

Other information: 

ESL instructors who have been accepted for the above position will need to agree to provide or to complete training for the following certifications:
a) CLB Bootcamp
c) Quartz curriculum development software
