POSITION: Trainer, Language Assessment Training Services (LASS and NLATS)
LOCATION: Ontario (LASS) and across Canada (NLATS)
REPORTING TO: Project Managers, LASS and NLATS
START DATE: April 16, 2018
END DATE: March 31, 2019
HOURS: Varies
HOURLY RATE: $33.56 (plus 4% vacation pay)

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Project Manager, the Casual Trainer will provide effective and measurable training, orientation, certification and recalibration in administration of CLBA/ELTPA/CLBA-LL assessment tools for language assessors across Ontario/Canada.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Assist in preparation of training material
  • Deliver effective and measurable training sessions in administration of CLB-based Assessment tools
  • Deliver professional development workshops on assessment tools when required
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and recommend modifications to training model
  • Respond to and resolve inquiries related to assessment tool construct, content, administration and scoring principles
  • Provide effective coaching and feedback to trainees
  • Complete comprehensive training reports following each session
  • Other duties as required
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
  • Recognized TESL Qualifications; TESL Ontario or TESL Canada Accreditation
  • Demonstrated knowledge and minimum of three (3) years’ experience in language assessment using CLB-based instruments
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Language Benchmarks
  • Good understanding of National Language Placement and Progression Guidelines
  • Excellent presentation style and ability to communicate effectively
  • Solid understanding of group dynamics and adult learning principles; sensitivity to the diverse needs of adult learners
  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Diplomacy and sensitivity in feedback provision and coaching
  • Ability to co-train and train independently
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Excellent communication skills in written English
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Windows Operating Systems and the internet
  • Familiarity with electronic media (videos, Skype, webinars for training purposes)
  • Ability to travel to various locations across Canada
