We require a qualified individual to create and deliver faculty development resources and learning opportunities primarily for Conestoga faculty with a key focus on supporting faculty in being inclusive while teaching diverse student groups (e.g., indigenous, international, newcomers to Canada, students with disabilities, LGBTQ2S, and other students with diverse support needs). This position will support all faculty, and will have a specific focus on providing educators guidance and advice in teaching international students, and newcomers to Canada.
Please note travel to all campuses is a requirement of the position. This position will require evening and weekend work throughout the year.
- Create services and resources for faculty who will teach programs with large cohorts of international students
- Support faculty in creating assignments, tests, and rubrics which meet the expectations of outcomes-based education and are reflective of academic integrity
- Create best practice videos, blog, guides, rubrics, etc. to support customized coaching, observations, workshops, and consultations
- Develop and deliver dynamic workshops and other in-person learning opportunities for faculty at all campuses (e.g. class management, evaluation, reading circle, teaching squares, etc.)
- Work collaboratively with faculty, coordinators, Chairs, the International Office, and other college stakeholders to identify common learning needs and develop appropriate workshops and resources
- Work with the Director, Teaching and Learning and other consultants on a variety of professional development initiatives in support of Teaching and Learning processes
- Develop and co-deliver onboarding activities for Conestoga faculty (primarily part-time) including the delivery of new faculty orientation workshops, creation and updating of new faculty onboarding resources, and conducting teaching observations
- Conduct observations of teaching and act as a teaching practice expert to provide theoretical and/or applied direction and advice on a wide variety of topics to faculty and Chairs (e.g., active learning, outcomes-based delivery, academic offences, de-escalating conflict in the classroom, group work, etc.)
- Remain current with teaching practices and procedures by teaching one course per year at Conestoga
- Master’s degree with a teachable subject and education related to faculty development, adult education, intercultural studies, or a related field
- Nine or more years of experience teaching in outcomes-based, post-secondary credit courses, or teaching at senior levels of secondary school; at least 3 years of post-secondary teaching required.
- Significant experience teaching to learners with diverse backgrounds and international educations, for whom English is not a first language
- Preference given to those with teaching experience in a College environment
- High skill level in all aspects of outcomes-based post-secondary education (e.g. curriculum development, lesson planning, classroom management, evaluation, active learning, etc.)
- Previous experience leading teacher education
- Experience with diverse student groups including, but not limited to indigenous, international, newcomers to Canada, students with disabilities, LGBTQ2S, and other students with diverse support needs).
- Experience with technology-enhanced teaching practices and Learning Management Systems (LMSs)
- Substantial experience teaching international students and/or demonstrable intercultural skills
- Ability to respond to attendee challenges during delivery and to facilitate difficult conversations
- Excellent Microsoft Office and document creation skills with the ability to create accessible educational materials
- Strong interpersonal, intercultural, presentation, communication, coaching, consultation, and planning skills
