POSITION: Community Liaison - Language Assessment Services - York Simcoe Durham

REPORTING TO: Manager, LAS YSD

START DATE: August 24th, 2020

HOURS: 8:30 am-4:30 pm (some weekends and evenings)

ANNUAL SALARY: $51,214.80 (pro-rated)

SUMMARY: The Community Liaison assists Language Assessment Services with the promotion of language training programs in York Region, Simcoe County and Durham Region, as well as, provides reception support.

Duties & Responsibilities: 

Community Liaison Duties/Responsibilities:

Develop & implement a promotion & outreach plan for language training programs in York, Simcoe and Durham
Revisit the promotion/outreach plan at specific intervals, evaluate its impact, and revise where necessary in consultation with partners
With input from local language training providers, execute short and long term marketing strategies
Prioritize marketing efforts, particularly related to current fill rates, projected migration patterns and demographic profiles.
Expand multicultural network of representatives to promote language training to emerging ethno-cultural communities and to the media (i.e. television, radio, print)
Promote language training to businesses, employment service centres and government agencies
Maintain webpages to market language assessment services and training in York, Simcoe and Durham
Coordinate Community Partnership Committee meeting schedules and arrangements
Record and produce minutes of the Community Partnership Committee meetings
Disseminate minutes of partnership meetings and other relevant materials to partners
Maintain and update manuals and language training listings
Assist the manager in the preparation of language training materials – statistical reports, general correspondence, marketing materials, flyers
Deliver information sessions to newcomer groups on the benefits of language training
Maintain a directory of Language Training Programs in York, Simcoe and Durham Regions
Perform a variety of clerical duties including photocopying, faxing, confidential record / document keeping and/or distribution
Provide a monthly report to the manager & funders; share reports at Community Partnership Committee meetings
Perform other related duties, as required

Receptionist Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide enthusiastic, courteous service to clients and the community at the Reception Desk
Respond to client inquiries by phone and in-person in a friendly and welcoming manner
Provide general informationon on language training programs offered in York/Simcoe and Durham
Assist clients by providing general information and referrals to other community services
Schedule appointments, including the use of the HARTs database
Contact clients to confirm/reschedule/rebook appointments as necessary
Input and update client information on HARTs
Perform a variety of clerical duties including filing, typing, photocopying, faxing, confidential record keeping and document distribution in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Undertake other duties assigned by coordinator/manager

Qualifications: 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum post-secondary education in a relevant field and/or 2-3 years equivalent experience
Extensive knowledge of language training programs in York/Simcoe and Durham Regions
Strong established network within the local language training community
Experience preparing promotional materials and implementing outreach strategies
Advanced computer skills with training in office technology
Web design and maintenance skills an asset
Proficiency with Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2010 applications (MS Word, Visio, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet
Precise recording of information and ability to produce and disseminate minutes of meetings
Ability to create, develop and continuously update databases
Multi-tasking, creativity, initiative and time management skills
Effective communication, interpersonal skills in a multicultural environment
Must have valid driver’s license and automobile; travel to various sites required on a regular basis
Familiarity with HARTs data base an asset
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, problem solving and organizational skills
Strong knowledge and ability to keep current on language training and other settlement programs
Ability to communicate in other languages an asset
