Summary

Achev is looking for an eLearning Developer for the Curriculum Development for SLT Project. Reporting to the Project Manager, the eLearning Developer will be responsible for advising the writing team on formats/templates, programming the courseware, ensuring integration of media assets (audio, video, images), and testing the content in the Onyx LMS. The eLearning Developer will collaborate with the project team to ensure creative, cost-effective, learner-centered solutions that integrate with the LMS platform and align with PBLA requirements

The Curriculum Development for Food Service SLT Project is funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development to March 31, 2022. Working collaboratively with key partners, Achev will develop customised interactive online curriculum and resources based on the needs of the food service industry for Stage 1 (CLB 2-4) language learners. The content will be designed for immigrants in Ontario who are currently working in, or those seeking employment opportunities within, Ontario’s Restaurant, Hotel and Motel industry. The curriculum for food service occupations will enable immigrants to develop their English language and occupation-specific communication skills. The modules will be made available to learners as Specialized Language Training (SLT) course options (for online or hybrid courses) in the Onyx platform, to be delivered by MCCSS-funded Language Training Providers in Ontario.

Duties & Responsibilities: 
  • Work with Project Manager and other stakeholders to define LMS functional specifications and requirements
  • Interpret information from gathering exercises (surveys, stakeholders, etc.) to define project requirements and specifications
  • Create, integrate and apply programming methodology to meet the goals of the project, including creating the course prototypes
  • Create and apply standards and processes relating to design, development, quality control, reporting, file management, and workflow
  • Create documentation adhering to version control and file management practices
  • Assist Project Manager in anticipating and mitigating roadblocks impacting project deliverables
  • Define and create test plans and test scripts, and execute testing against defined test scripts
  • Problem solve programming challenges and de-bug as necessary
  • Ensure (and report back on) the high-quality execution of all development tasks as outlined in the Project Management Plan
  • Pack courseware for delivery onto the Onyx Learning Management System
  • Ensure development standards such as SCORM and AICC are upheld
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications: 
  • Post Secondary information technology diploma or degree, preferably in computer programming, web design and/or multimedia development
  • 3+ years experience developing asynchronous online learning, using eLearning authoring tools and Moodle platforms (blocks, modules, plugins, themes, web services etc.)
  • Experience in the full deployment cycle of custom eLearning projects
  • Minimum 2 years experience facilitating course delivery on a Moodle platform
  • Knowledge of various multimedia and online programming languages such as AS2, AS3, Adobe AIR, Flash Player, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, HTML5, XML, etc.
  • Experience programming (packaging) to SCORM and AICC standards
  • Understanding of instructional design, adult learning principles, accessibility and copyright standards
  • Experience developing to Accessibility standards and knowledge of accessibility tools and resources
  • Minimum 1 year experience adding interactive activities in Moodle, including the following: H5P, Quiz, Assignment, SCORM
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience adding standard resources and activities into a Moodle course, such as Glossary, Forum, Feedback, Choice, Label, Page, URL, File, Folder
  • Able to integrate media assets (audio, video, images) into various Moodle activities and resources; able to setup activities in Moodle gradebook
  • Experience adding resources and activities into a Moodle course, such as Wiki, Poodll, Checklist, Book, Lesson, Game, Hot Potatoes, Chat, BigBlueButton
  • Able to work independently and research the Web to find solutions to Moodle and other challenges
  • Able to advise non-technical team members on the most suitable media and technology for LMS; ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
  • Able to advise writers on content specifications to ensure successfully integration to the LMS
  • Able to help establish and follow an efficient workflow in coordination with other team members, such as content writers
  • Excellent prioritization, time management skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills to accurately assess problems and effectively and efficiently arrive at solutions
  • Not-for-profit or settlement sector experience an asset
